DAY 1: BANGKOK

Welcome to Thailand, the land of smiles. Upon your arrival at the international airport, you will be welcomed and greeted by your private driver and you are escorted to your hotel in Bangkok. No other activities are planned on your arrival day until your 6 pm tour briefing. Please remember that hotel check-in times are after midday – unless the hotel has some rooms already available. If you do arrive early you can leave your luggage at the reception and we would encourage you to get out and explore Bangkok – but please take a hotel business card so that you will be able to find your way back. Before leaving the hotel, please contact the hotel reception staff to take a note to advise your room number for your tour leader and if you already have any other contact details please provide them as well. It is important that you attend the tour briefing in the evening with your tour leader and afterwards, for those interested, your guide may escort you to a local restaurant to sample some delights of Thai cuisine and toast to a great start of what will be an unforgettable journey in Thailand.

Overnight in BANGKOK. Hotel Accommodation is included in this package.

DAY 2: BANGKOK

Today we are off to an early start. After our breakfast at the hotel, we will be picked-up in the hotel lobby and we will explore the city with its temples and canals to show you the Venice of the East. We will visit the famous Grand Palace as well as other less popular but evenly significant sights. Around noon, you will be escorted to a hotel next to the mighty Chao Phraya River, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch set on the hotels roof terrace with great views of the surrounding temples and the river itself.

Later in the day, your tour guide will arrange a long-tail boat (a small traditional transfer boat in Thailand) to explore the hidden smaller canals, called klongs, in Bangkok leading away from the Chao Phraya River and also lead you away from the noise and masses of the tourist hotspots and you will feel a strange but comfortable atmosphere of tranquility when you discover the back alleys of the areas around the klongs.

In the afternoon, we are returning by private van back to the hotel where we may choose to rest for a bit or explore on your own further.

In the evening you are free at leisure. You may decide to watch a performance at the Calypso Cabaret, Bangkok’s famous transvestite show, enjoy the excitement of a Muay Thai Live show (kickboxing & culture) or take a leisurely evening cruise on the Chao Phraya River.

Overnight in Bangkok. Hotel Accommodation is included in this package.

DAY 3: BANGKOK - CHIANG RAI

This morning, we transfer to Don Muang airport for our domestic flight to Chiang Rai. Upon arrival, we begin our tour to the Golden Triangle with our private van. We are going to explore different border villages and the natural highlights of the area. The region earned its name from the fact, that three countries (Laos, Myanmar & Thailand) share borders here and the region was infamous in the past for its flourishing opium trade between borders.

In the afternoon, we travel to the Golden Triangle point where the three countries, Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and Thailand meet to enjoy the view on 3 countries and understand its significance. We will also visit a small opium museum that provides information on the infamous trade for which this region is known.

We continue back to Chiang Rai in the late afternoon. This evening you are welcome to visit the Night Market to explore local artwork and connect with locals and other travelers alike.

Overnight in CHIANG RAI. Accommodation is included in this package.

DAY 4: CHIANG RAI - CHIANG DAO

After breakfast, we drive to the Kok River where we board a longtail boat and journey along the river towards Thaton. (Please note, that at some times of the year, it may be necessary to travel by mini-van due to the low water levels making it unsuitable to travel by boat. At other times, if the water levels are only just sufficient, you may have to lend a bit of muscle to push the boat over a sandbar or two!).

The trip along the Kok River allows us time to enjoy the surroundings before disembarking at Thaton. We then drive for an hour and a half into the northern hill region around Chiang Dao where we trek through Palong, Karen, Lisu and Akha villages. Meeting these colourful people gives you an insight into their unique lifestyle and customs.

In the afternoon we proceed to Chiang Dao to stay the night.
