We start with a visit to the city of Georgetown on the island of Penang – Britain’s oldest settlement in Malaysia. We then head up to the cool climate and lush surroundings of the Cameron Highlands with its many tea plantations and treks for the more adventurous. Kuala Lumpur (or KL as it is known to the locals) is a melting pot of Chinese, Indian and Malay culture and this is reflected in the many great dining options in this great city. Our last stop in Malaysia is the historic town of Malacca (Melaka) before reaching our final destination – the modern and dynamic city-state of Singapore.

DAY 1: PENANG

Welcome to Malaysia! Our guide will pick you up from the airport in Penang and drive you to your hotel. Please remember that hotel check-in times are usually around 12 pm. If you do arrive early you can leave your luggage at reception and we would encourage you to get out and explore Penang – but please take a hotel business card so that you will be able to find your way back. It is important you attend the tour briefing and afterwards, for those interested, your leader will be happy to escort you to a local restaurant to sample the delights of Malaysian cuisine and toast the start of what will be an unforgettable journey.

DAY 2: PENANG

After breakfast at the hotel, 09:00AM your tour leader will meet you at Hotel Lobby to proceed for Penang City – Georgetown, the capital city of Penang, was named after King George III of England, is an interesting land of the old and new. It is worth to note that Penang has one of the largest Colonial building collections in South East Asia.

Your tour includes a stop at Fort Cornwallis, built in 1808. Fort Cornwallis also marks the spot where Sir Francis Light (the founder of the British colony of Penang) first landed on the island. Guests will be driven through the Street of Harmony, which houses the Anglican Church, Kuan Yin Chinese Temple, Mahamariaman Indian Temple and the Kapitan Keling Mosque, followed by a visit to the State Museum, built in 1821, which houses a fine collection of old photographs, maps and charts. Pass by the colourful Little India and the bustling Chinatown. Last stop is the world’s fourth largest reclining Buddha statue at Wat Chayamangkalaram.

Around lunch time you are trasfered back to the hotel in Penang and you have the afternoon free to explore on your own to discover the colorful markets, old temples and historic Chinese clan houses of Georgetown or to catch the bus to Batu Ferringhi Beach (bus depot situated at the base of the Komtar Building). At some stage during your stay, be sure to hunt down a street stall in Little India, where you can buy cheap snacks such as samosas or pakoras – they are a real taste sensation! Penang’s population is dominated by Hokkien Chinese and their cuisine is everywhere to be seen. An optional evening rickshaw ride to Gurney Drive enables you to dine at one of the many hawker food stalls there – local specialties include char kway teow, Penang prawn mee (noodles) and laksa.

DAY 3: PENANG - CAMERON HIGHLANDS (263KM/ 4HRS)

Breakfast at the hotel, we leave for the mainland and continue on the hot coastal plains until the turn-off for the Cameron Highlands (approximately 4-5 hours). It was here that the famous silk trader, Jim Thompson, vanished back on March 26, 1967, when he went out for a pre-dinner stroll and never came back. No trace of him was ever found!

En-route stop in Bukit Merah, the only Orang Utan Research Facility in Peninsular Malaysia. A short boat ride will take you to the Orang Utan Island where Orang Utans roam free. This unique island serves as a breeding sanctuary as well as conservation, research and education centre to better understand this endangered species.

Then we continue our journey to the Cameron Highlands and we will take you through a wide variety of scenery from the flat lowlands up through mountainous terrain, before arriving at the scenic hill town of Tanah Rata. En-route you will be able to see the aborigines people known as orand asli who still live in a very traditional way.

Here you can choose from the many optional activities (at your own expense) such as a trek along one of the many surrounding mountain trails, a visit to the lush green tea plantations that have made this region famous or maybe you would prefer a relaxing day enjoying afternoon tea and scones at a quaint English-style place of lodging called ‘Ye Olde Smokehouse’.

The afternoon is free at leisure after check-in at the hotel.

DAY 4: CAMERON HIGHLANDS

Breakfast at the hotel. Around 09:00AM your tour leader will meet you at the hotel lobby with a half day Cameron Highlands Tour – This fascinating tour will cover most of the highlights of the highlands. We will begin by cruising through the green carpets of BOH plantation – the pioneer of the growers in Malaysia. Founded in 1929 by John Archibald Russell, a Scottish, this vast estate is still owned and managed by the family till today.

After the guided tour to the tea factory, our next visit will be the main revenue earner of the Cameron Highlands – the flower and vegetable farming. Here, one will not only see the various types of flowers and vegetables but also the methods used by the industrious local farming community. After that, we will visit local market where most of the local produce can be found.

Note: Tea Factory is closed on Monday & Public Holidays and also in case of low of production. After the tour we return to the hotel. The driver/ vehicle are at your disposal to visit the surrounding area (excluding entrance fees & personal expenses) Drop off hotel at 1700hrs.

DAY 5: CAMERON HIGHLANDS - KUALA LUMPUR (205KM/4-5HRS)

Breakfast at the hotel. At 09:00AM we leave Tana Rata for the five-hour journey to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. Meaning ‘Muddy Confluence’, it was settled in the 1860s by tin prospectors who named it after its location at the meeting point of the Kelang and Gombak rivers. An orientation tour will take us past some of its most famous sights including Merdeka Square, Lake Gardens, National Monument and the impressive old railway station, designed in a Moorish style. KL, as it is commonly known, is home to the world’s tallest twin-towered buildings, the Petronas Towers (491 metres), as well as many impressive colonial structures.

Note: Excluding the skybridge ticket to Petronas Twin Tower.

In the early evening we are arriving at our hotel for check-in and you are free to explore Kuala Lumpur on your own free time at leisure.

DAY 6: KUALA LUMPUR

Breakfast at the hotel. The rest of the day, free for your own activities. If time permit you may discover and experience for yourself the diversity of old and new Malaysia. With its strong Indian and Chinese influences, the city contains some of the finest markets and restaurants in South East Asia. For the best views of the city we suggest you take a ride up the elevators of the 421 metre tall Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower).

DAY 7: KUALA LUMPUR - MALACCA (152KM/ 1HRS 50 MINUTE)

Breakfast at the hotel. 08:45AM, after breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed for Malacca Excursion Tour – this excursion brings you to Malacca which was once colonized by the Portuguese, Dutch, British and the Japanese during their occupation over a period of 400 years. Visit the Dutch Square with the pink colored Stadthuys, Christ Church, Clock Tower and the Queen Victoria Fountain. Besides that, you will be visit the fascinating Baba Nonya Museum, which showcases the history of the Straits Chinese immigrants, who were the result of the original Chinese overture dating back to 1405.

You will also see the Cheng Hoon Teng, which is the oldest functioning Chinese temple in Malaysia which was founded in 1645. The Porta De Santiago, the Gate to the Portuguese fortress “La Formosa”, built in 1511, the St. Paul’s Church where St. Francis Xavier was once buried and many more interesting sites would also be worth a look. After a local lunch (own expenses), you will have time to stroll around the Jonker street, famous for its Malaccan antiques. Note: Lunch at own expenses.

DAY 8: MALACCA

Breakfast at the hotel. The rest of the day, free for your own activities. In your free time, you can hire one of the colorful trishaw and explore the intriguing Chinese side streets that are dotted with old churches, antique shops, temples and other remnants of the past.

DAY 9: MALACCA - JOHOR BAHRU - SINGAPORE (246KM/4HRS)

Breakfast at the hotel. At 09:00AM your tour leader will meet you at hotel for your onwards journey to Johor Bahru before enter into Singapore. The overland transfer will take approximately 4hrs (depending on traffic & weather conditioned). Around 1300hrs you will meet our representative at R & R, the 2nd Link (Malaysia Border) and you will exchange the vehicle at this meeting point before enter to Singapore.

Note : Difference driver & vehicle from Johor Bahru (2nd Link) to Singapore. The vehicle/ driver/ guide will be change at 2nd Link. This is the procedure to enter into Singapore, because our vehicle & Malaysian Guides are not allowed to go into Singapore and do a commentary for the tour in Singapore.

Upon arrival in Singapore you are transferred to your hotel and you have the evening free at leisure to explore the city and the area around your hotel. We recommend to visit the Merlion Park and enjoy the impressive views of Marina Bay. Do not miss out this picture – enjoy this opportunity with The Merlion, a mythological creature that is part lion and part fish and the symbol of Singapore.

There are numerous beaches in the vicinity. Occheuteal Beach houses many bars and restaurants where seafood is the specialty, or the northern enchanting Serendipity Beach. Other beaches include Otres Beach, Sokha Beach, Independence Beach and Victory Beach. These beaches can easily be visited by renting a bicycle for the day and touring the peninsula or by hiring a local tuk-tuk. For more activities, you can wander into the town center or explore the countryside. Please be aware that this town is quite hilly in areas and spreads over quite a large area.

DAY 10: SINGAPORE

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will have a half day City Tour arranged on a seat-in-coach (SIC) basis with a English speaking guide. Your local guide will take you around the city for the most famous highlights, stunning views of the Marina bay and give you local insights in the melting pot culture of Singapore with its Malaysian, Chinese and other Asian influencing sub-cultures. In the afternoon you are free to explore on your own again to go shopping for souvenirs or hunt for more beautiful pictures with unique encounters with the locals.

DAY 11: SINGAPORE

Today is the last day of your tour. We will bring you back to the international airport in Singapore to catch your flight. We wish you a comfortable journey home and we are sure you will take some wonderful memories of Malaysia and Singapore with you.

 

When booking your tour, please check to see whether you need any post-tour nights, bearing in mind that accommodation for the night of the final day of the tour (Day 11) is not included.
